Weekender

Date weekend with Liz: Saw two movies. The only thing worth a shit about the Fantastic Four movie is Ben Grimm; the movie is dominated by the Sue/Reed arc, which nobody in the audience at anything close to a normal level of development could have found any tension in. That's not really true, the movie is in fact dominated by the xtreem-sports asshole version of Johnny Storm, who spends the whole movie acting as if he's had to take a piss since two days ago and can't focus enough to find a bathroom. No aspect of the plot or action makes any earthly sense from minute to minute.

Jessica Alba is adorable, of course, but she's about as believable as a scientist as her purported brother as a pilot. Or as her brother, for that matter. I suppose one or both could have been adopted, but there's no way the same set of genes combined to produce a needle-nosed Irish kid and a yummy little black girl.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory was very much in the spirit of the books, which is to say mean and weird. Depp is being incredibly disingenuous about the Michael Jackson influence on his version of WW, but one can see why.

Henry must have managed to eat something unfortunate on Saturday, because Sunday morning beginning around 3am it was on-the-hour frantic trips outside. He's still not right, but he is on the mend. On our walk this morning, the stupid little bastard found some nugget of rancid offal on the sidewalk and bolted it down before I could stop him.

We babysat Liz's nephew for a few hours on Sunday. He's the most tractable 2yo on earth, at least with us. He's a little grouch with his folks, but that's familiarity breeding contempt. After a trip to the park and some whiffle batting practice, Liz gave him some oil crayons to draw with (softer than wax, so easier to use if you are wee). She framed the result and hung it in the living room.

I got nothing done project-wise this weekend, but nothing was urgent. The few things I did are going to have to be done over, so the less I did the better.

This week brings another 6am conference call, which I will show up for shaved, showered, breakfasted, and exhausted. Expect a high complaint index.

I read a great piece of advice this morning, which involved making a full schedule of one's time, including sleep, so when one gets asked to a 6am business meeting, one can say, "I'm sorry, I already have something scheduled for that time."

:D

I like that. Sadly, there's no way out of this.

I've gotten way fussier about to-do lists and scheduling time lately. I am embracing with love my control freakier aspects.

I find that horrifically ironic, considering it's a conference call, and therefore you should be able to participate from bed...

I've strangely become way less of a control freak lately. I still have my lists tho..

I have no real remote access beyond the phone, and I'm the "tech guy", so I have to be on call to find shit my boss can't and send around links. And I've tried taking these calls from home, and it is a worse experience than getting up at 4:30am and stumbling to the first Orange Line train of the day.
